Tips To Prepare for the Upcoming General Strike

Start preparing for AND PARTICIPATING in the general strike today.

"Strike", a painting by Mihály Munkácsy

A general strike is coming sooner than later in America. As living standards plummet, inflation spirals, and layoffs accelerate, the billionaires get more overconfident about their positions. Several huge unions have already called for a general strike on May 1, 2028. The workers who want change must begin preparing and practicing. If even a small slice of start now, the strike will happen even sooner!

If a radical rebalancing of power and wealth seems necessary to you, great news! We’re starting a series on preparing for a general strike. Here’s eight tips to start preparing, practicing, and participating in a general strike.

  1. Practice small acts of defiance. If you work at a restaurant or grocery, give away the leftover food instead of throwing it away, for example. A good rule of thumb: If the only reason a rule at work exists is to make a really rich person more money - break that rule.

  2. Grow your own food. “The most radical thing you can do is grow your own food.” We all need to eat. The more you can feed yourself, the less reliance you have on external sources of food. This will also help lower grocery prices!

  3. Get to know your neighbors. Build a network of support with them. I bake bread all the time, and I will frequently gift a few slices to various neighbors. Doing this routinely builds up support.

  4. Building on the last one: Explicitly set up mutual aid networks for food distribution, childcare, medical care, and housing support to sustain strikers.

  5. Stock up on essential supplies. Strikes can last for weeks, and you’ll be helping participants less prepared than you. Food, water, medications, and other emergency supplies you deem necessary.

  6. Reduce your consumption, at least regarding things you spend money on. It’s a lot harder to miss what you’ve already given up!

  7. Unionize your workplace and vocally and materially support others’ attempts to unionize.

  8. Tell others about the general strike! Americans are readier than ever for change. A general strike empowers everyone except the billionaires! Many people will be enthused to get empowered.

Do you notice a theme here?

Start breaking your reliance on the system that abuses you. One of the main goals of the oligarchy is to break our social connections and then financialize them. The more you rebuild these social connections, the less reliance you have on America’s abusive economic system AND the greater your ability to strike!
