- In 2023, American blood-product exports made up 1.8% of the country’s total goods exports. The total value of blood products exported was $37 Billion.
- That makes blood the USA’s ninth-largest goods export - ahead of coal and gold!
- America supplies approximately 70% of the world’s plasma used in pharmaceuticals.
- European countries have much stricter regulations around blood donations. Americans can donate over 104 times in a year (twice a week) - more than 3 times as often as Europeans can!
- Europeans say they do not want to make human bodies a “commodity”.
- A majority of Americans live paycheck-to-paycheck, making them willing to part with their blood for low prices.
