Philadelphia Workers Win First Whole Foods Union! Whole Foods Workers United say they want to "start a big wave"
Jeff Bezos deploys a team of white collar predators to attack the entire Labor Department in response. Whole Foods Workers United says they will not be stopped.
“We fully expected Whole Foods to try to stall this process. Amazon has a well-documented history of using baseless objections to undermine the rights of workers seeking representation, and this case is no different. Their goal is clear: they don’t want to bargain in good faith with their workers.”
- Local UFCW 1776 President Wendell Young IV
WORKERS UNITED WIN BIG: Amazon spent millions on union-busting… and still lost
- Amazon owns Whole Foods. Amazon is controlled by Jeff Bezos, Chairman of Amazon’s Board and largest individual shareholder.
- Bezos has become one of the richest men in the world by stiffing his workers and union-busting.
- Amazon forced Whole Foods employees to sit through “captive audience meetings” - mandatory meetings during working hours where Amazon screeched at employees to not join the union.
- 57% of the workers still voted for the union. This is a 14 point margin of victory.
ONE-TWO PUNCH: Oligarchs Bezos and Trump Are Working Together To Completely Halt Enforcement of Labor Laws
- Trump has refused to appoint a “quorum” of National Labor Relations Board Members. The NLRB requires a quorum to make any decisions. By not appointing enough members, the board is legally paralyzed.
- Amazon’s #1 objection (see sources) to the NLRB certifying the Whole Foods Union is that the NLRB lacks a quorum.
- Amazon is essentially arguing labor laws no longer apply in America.
LOOKING BACK: Union Violence Was Much More Common Before the National Labor Relations Board Was Formed
- The NLRB was formed as part of the New Deal of Franklin Roosevelt’s 1st Year as President
- Unions used to burn their bosses’ homes down if their bosses got too greedy.
- It would be a good thing if the oligarchy would stop destabilizing formal outlets for legitimate labor greivances. A lack of formal outlets will surely return America to a sadder era of union vigilanteism.
